Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
We are an in network practice with Aetna and BCBS insurances. For all other plans we are out of network.
I
f your insurance plan includes out of network benefits, you can get reimbursed for some or all of the session fee.
We will provide a superbill to submit for reimbursement. For out of network clients: payment is due at the time of sessions.
Please check your benefits prior to your appointment. To check your benefits, call your insurance company and use the information on the script linked here.
I’ve never seen a dietitian; what can I expect?
We love newcomers! The first session is about gathering your history (medical history, any eating disorder history, background with food and exercise, etc) and talking about your big picture goals. In follow up sessions, we work collaboratively on what you feel is top priority. We will break down your long term goals into smaller steps to get you where you want to be as well as discuss anything going on in your life like holidays, athletic events, weddings or big events, travel, or anything else that affects your eating routine. We check in on past goals and any medical updates and will also discuss exercise and body image. There's a lot we can talk about which makes things fun!
How often are sessions and how long does someone typically see a dietitian?
It really varies! This is so individual and each person will have unique needs and preferences. Most of our clients see us every week or every other week. I recommend a minimum of 3-6 months of nutrition counseling to see change, and from there we continually re-assess and will jointly decide what kind of support is best for you!
What is your approach?
We are a team of RDs rooted in Intuitive Eating. We are here to help you learn to fuel yourself by following your internal guidance rather than focusing on external rules (like calorie counts, macros, or diets). We typically provide meal guidelines rather than strict meal plans, and we help you find the flexibility in meeting your nutrition needs. Whether you are wanting education on nutrition science, meal ideas so you know exactly what to buy and cook, strategies for quicker prep or meals on the go, or overall improvement of your relationship with food, we cover it all and personalize it to you.
What is the length of a session?
Initial sessions are about 60 minutes and follow ups are about 50 mins
Do I have to live in a particular state to work with you?
We work with clients in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, NJ, NY, VA, IL, MA, MT, OR, TX, VT
Do you offer virtual or in person sessions?
All of our sessions are virtual at this time and are held on video via a secure, HIPPA compliant platform.
What ages do you see?
We work with teens and adults ages 12+. Younger clients may be seen on a case by case basis.
Do you only work with people who have an eating disorder diagnosis?
No! Many clients come to us without an eating disorder diagnosis. We approach all of our work through an eating disorder informed lens and we practice from an Intuitive Eating and weight inclusive approach. We do not believe a diagnosis, or lack thereof, is the most important thing. We support clients with a range of health concerns to have an overall healthier relationship with food and body image. We will target your goals in a flexible and sustainable way regardless of diagnosis.
